Gratitude For My Team At Wendi Riggens Photography!

Staying up late to get some work done so I can be out of the office tomorrow, and can’t stop thinking about how blessed I am to have such an incredible team behind me.

A huge thank you goes out to Christie, for keeping me organized and in touch! I really, honestly could not do it all without you by my side!

Kamry, these last three months have been so awesome getting to know you during your internship, and I am so happy to have you joining our team as a permanent member!

Doni, it’s been 5 AMAZING years working side-by-side, creating beautiful wedding albums, and I don’t have enough words to express my love and gratitude for you!

Brandy, after three summers of shooting weddings together, we are still laughing and reading each others’ minds and moves. I couldn’t ask for a better second shooter!

Without these 4 women, I would not have the business that I have today, and absolutely could not get myself out of bed every morning and walk into the office without a smile to face the world. As important as what I do behind the camera is, everything they do is equally as important, and I am incredibly thankful for each and every one of them!

Sweet Newborn Baby Girl & Little Sister

Little Miss Bryleigh came to see me in the studio about a week ago when she was just a few days old, and what an absolute sweetheart! She was so sleepy and cuddly, and was so cooperative!!!

Look at these big brothers and big sister!! This little girl is going to be so spoiled and loved!!

I love this, her reaction after Daddy kissed her. ๐Ÿ™‚

Mommy is absolutely beautiful!!!

I love this little outtake. I asked her littler big brother to kiss her, and instead it looks like he is sniffing her head! ๐Ÿ™‚

I cannot wait to watch Bryleigh grow up over the next year!!

More SuperHero Birthday Party Planning!

The superhero birthday party is just a couple of weeks away! Invitations went out last week and sightings of the birthday bandit have been reported all over Southeast Iowa! Yesterday I caught a glimpse of him running down the sidewalk in Keokuk. The villain is a bit of a show-off, even posing for a photo before taking off again!

Part of the birthday party invitation, a newspaper that I designed and wrote from scratch to “set the stage” for the party.

Stay tuned for more breaking news as the party gets closer!

Sweet Little Newborn Baby Boy – Burlington Iowa

Little Jarrett was SUCH a perfect little guy during his newborn session a couple of weeks ago! He slept so well and made my job so easy! Newborns make me smile, and he was no exception!

Look at all of these tiny little details! Those itty bitty fingers and toes are just so sweet!

This little guy already loves sucking his thumb!

Callie, Jarrett’s mom, is Australian, and brought this authentic didgeridoo to use during the session. I thought I would take a couple extra minutes to talk about newborn safety during sessions. Hanging infants from objects has become very popular in the last couple of years, and if not done properly, this can cause serious injury to these precious little ones. The safest way to create these images is by using Photoshop.

Now, everyone that knows me, knows I don’t like using Photoshop. My goal is to always get things as near perfect in camera, and if something needs fixed, I should be able to do it in Lightroom. However, when I have a hanging request, I always, ALWAYS use Photoshop.

When shooting these, I do two shots. One is of the item that we will be hanging from in the position I want it for the final image, with the hanging apparatus securely attached. The second is of the baby in the hanging apparatus. However, the baby is not several feet off the ground, but instead usually only an inch or two off a VERY padded surface with Mommy and Daddy just barely out of the frame.

For this shot, we had pillows and several layers of blankets on the floor, and I was laying almost completely flat on the ground to get the right angle. Callie’s hands were right beside baby boy, to provide support. We was off the ground for just a few very short seconds, and was very safe.

I couldn’t imagine hanging a baby feet off the ground, and will gladly spend an extra 10 minutes in Photoshop to get the image that the parents want, without putting their little one at risk.

Here’s the setup shots and the resulting image. If you look closely, you can see what components of each image went into the final one, but on its own, you might never notice!

I can’t wait to see Jarrett at 3 months old to see how he has grown!

Pegg - What beautiful images. I’m sure they’ll treasure these a lifetime. Love the safety warning. It’s much needed these days.
