SuperHero Birthday Party Planning!

My little boy turns 4 in just a few weeks, and in every spare minute I have, I am actively planning his party! Anyone that knows me, knows that I LOVE birthday party planning. This year, he wants superheros. He actually originally wanted a “Tangled” themed party, but after seeing The Avengers, he changed his mind!

Rather than going with a traditional superhero party, we are going with something a bit different. Think real-life superheros gone under ground and forced out of hiding by a terrible villain who is crashing kids birthday parties and stealing their presents and eating their cake. Newspaper articles, invitations to a private, exclusive superhero training academy, adults dusting off their super costumes…it is going to be epic!

Here’s a sneak peak of “MadMax”, my little man’s alter ego. He’s known for his speed and being able to shoot fire from his hands (or so he claims, his powers will not truly manifest until his 4th birthday). His favorite color is green, and he also picked yellow for his costume. I made the cape and mask by free-hand cutting them the size I thought would work. The material is interfaced together, and he wanted a “pretty” edge, so I used an extra wide double-folded bias tape. I used interfacing for the shirt as well and then stitched it to make sure it wouldn’t come off. I’m actually going to redo the shirt because I want the M facing the other direction, but it won’t take long.

It took a little convincing to get him to run around the park sans pants, and he only gave me about 3 minutes to shoot before he lost ALL interest and wanted his clothes back on, but this was all I needed!

Keep an eye out in a few weeks for party pics!
